1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole? I think the title has something to do with the relationship of a couple which can be compare to a road. Because like a road relationships are sometimes rough and sometimes go smoothly. 2. Why does the film start in the way that it does? To show that the movie is more of the unfaithfulness of the husband. 3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve? Yes. The wife always asking repeated questions of what the husband wants to share. The purpose is maybe to let the viewer know that the next scene is the different scenario of the first one. 4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.) Yes. It actually makes the movie more realistic. 5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes? They use the light or dark color to determine the mood of the scenes. This film used the dark color to suggest that the scene is on the serious part and light color for the funny part. 6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function? The scenes were when the fight of the couple is over. 7. What specific scene constitutes the film's climax? How does this scene resolve the central issue of the film? It is when the wife told to her husband that she has only few months or years left. Because of this they think of some scenarios that full of ‘’what if’s”. 8. Does the film leave any disunities (loose ends) at the end? If so, what does it suggest? Yes it does the repeated scenes which first I thought have nothing to do with the story buy after knowing the end of the story I found out that those scenes were the important part for the twist of the story. 9. Why does the film conclude on this particular image? For us to remember that being unfaithful to our love ones might bring problems and it is not the right thing to do. We should understand what love is all about.

What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole? Aside from it is the main setting of the story, it also related to the relationship of a couple. Like the north diversion road there are different exits that we need to choose. Each exit has a purpose in our life.
2. Why does the film start in the way that it does? It was started that way so that we will have the idea about the story. It shows about the infidelity of the husband.
3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve? Yes. There are motifs which are repeated several times. Like the scenes before every episode start, I think it foreshadows what is going to happen to the husband and wife. They also used the same car in traveling in different places.
4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.) Yes, they used sound in every scene to enhance the tension and conflict of the story.
5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes? The color used in the background has a big effect in the mood of every scene. Dark color when the situation is somewhat dramatic or serious while light color when the situation is funny or when the situation is smooth 6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function? The scene is cut whenever they stop discussing about their problems, the infidelity of the husband. There are patterns because every time they stop arguing they are always approaching at the exit.
7. What specific scene constitutes the film's climax? How does this scene resolve the central issue of the film? The specific scene that constitute the climax of the film is when the situation that the wife is insane. The scene resolve the central issue by making the husband realizes all his mistakes. It also resolves by the forgiveness of the wife.
8. Does the film leave any disunities (loose ends) at the end? If so, what does it suggest? Yes, it suggests that we need to think twice in our decision so that we will never regret it. We need to be faithful with our partner so that we will gain trust.

1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole? Aside from the fact that the scenes were taken there, the title indicates its similarity to a marriage life. North Diversion Road is a long highway where there are lots of exits, different people and different things that happen. Like this, marriage life is a long journey to take. There are obstacles that couple may encounter in the way but still they continue to go on until they reached the end of the relationship. Only to found out that after the exit point is another road that needs to be taken.
2. Why does the film start in the way that it does? I think it started that way to show the conflict in the story and to illustrate how the couples talk about their problem together.
3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve? There are repeated scenes from the car with different types of couple but has a similarity with regards to their problem and also the wife’s dialogue saying, “Magkwento ka naman. Ano bang iniisip mo?” I think the scenes from the car shows situations with the same problem but different types of couples. It explains how these variety of couples handle their problems. The dialogue serves to be the initiator of the imagination of the husband.
4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.) The sound effects where used in the film to highlight its setting. It is also used to emphasize some situations.
5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes? The scenes are in dark color if it is the real character in the story. And they used light color in scenes that are only made up of the husband’s imagination.
6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function? The scenes ended after the argument of the couple about the infidelity of the husband. The situations also changed every after the different exit point.
7. What specific scene constitutes the film's climax? How does this scene resolve the central issue of the film? I think the climax of the story is when the film revealed that the wife has an illness. I think that it shows that the husband is having an affair with another women to have someone by his side after the wife’s death.
8. Does the film leave any disunities (loose ends) at the end? If so, what does it suggest? I think it is to suggest that the conflict in the film can be only solved by the couple. And like the road they are taking now, it is still a long way for them.
9. Why does the film conclude on this particular image? It is to indicate that every marriage life is a long process that needs to be work out by couples. There are obstacles that may come their way but needs to be faced. It is all about helping each other and staying in each other’s side.

Guide Questions to Critical Assessment of Sa North Diversion Road 1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole? 2. Why does the film start in the way that it does? 3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve? 4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.) 5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes? 6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function? 7. What specific scene constitutes the film's climax? How does this scene resolve the central issue of the film? 8. Does the film leave any disunities (loose ends) at the end? If so, what does it suggest? 9. Why does the film conclude on this particular image? ANSWERS:
1. The title of the film, Sa North Diversion Road could literally be because it is the setting of the movie. But I think the road with many exit points could also symbolize the relationships of different couples and to show how the different characters respond to their problem. 2. The film starts that way to give the audience an idea of what the film is all about; which is about the unfaithfulness of the husbands or adultery. 3. Yes, there are scenes and images of dialogue that are repeated. Like the scenes which happened in the car (the same car is also used in all ten scenes) when the wife asks her husband’s feeling. Also some dialogues where repeated but only delivered in another way. To show that all the relationships of the couples presented in the film have the same problem which is unfaithfulness of one’s partner. And because of this they are going through the same process like asking of feelings and fighting. 4. Yes, sound is used to enhance the film. It adds beauty and emotion to the film. 5. The film uses light or dark colors to emphasize the mood or tone of the scenes. They use dark colors if the scenes are serious especially when the couple were not okay while light colors are used when the scenes are sometimes funny or not serous at all or rather the couple were still happy with each other. 6. The scenes are cut when the couples finish quarrelling and about to reach the exit point. Yes there are patterns in the way the cuts are made. 7. The climax of the story is when the wife became insane or rather lost her mind. The central issue of the film is resolved by this scene because it where the husband realized his mistake and apologizes to his wife. He then decided to change. 8. Yes, there are disunities at the end of the film. It suggests that whatever outcome of the relationship may be depends on how the two partners deal with their relationship. 9. The film concluded on this particular image to show infidelity or cheating of one’s partner destroys a good relationship. It also includes the concept of forgiveness and change.
