Guide Questions to Critical Assessment of Sa North Diversion Road 1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole? -It seems that the road was symbolic, maybe because road is a never ending like the marriage that they must have no dead end unless death. Or usually, husband and wife do their quarrel stuff while driving 2. Why does the film start in the way that it does? -To show that conflict between couples are usually brought out when they are travelling. 3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve? -the settings, to show that couples do their fights with the similar reason but the way they deal with it are different, depending upon their personalities. 4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.) -yes, especially the sound of enigines, and all the sounds. 5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes? -when the story is like blunt or serious the film used darker color like the very first type of couple and the couple with crazy wife. and when the scenes are lively and loud they used lighter color of dress, make up or the day time. 6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function? -there is a pattern, the scenes were cut every time that the fight is over or when the wife had already told his husband that she knows he has another girl. 7. 1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole? The film setting is in the north diversion road. there are different exits shown in the film that shows different type of characters and scenes with the same conflict. I think, that the movie shows how different people act in a same situation.
2. Why does the film start in the way that it does? To show the conflict of the story. I think it foreshadows what is the film all about. 3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve? There is a scene and images that are repeated, like the scenes before the start of each films, I think it foreshadows what is going to happen. The same car is also used by each characters, I think they serve as a symbol that the characters are going through the same path or having the same conflict in their relationship.
4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.) sound effects are used a bit. but natural sounds are present, but it adds up the emotion.
5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes? I've noticed that the color or the light used in the film differs depending on the mood or tone of the scene. They use dark color or dim light suggesting seriousness of the scene, like for example the scene of the police man and his wife from the hospital, and the first couple. lighter color is used when the scene is not serious or the scene has a light approach sometimes funny.
6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function? I think there is a pattern in scene cuts... After a discussion between the couple there is a period of silence.
7. What specific scene constitutes the film's climax? How does this scene resolve the central issue of the film? We aren't done watching the film
8. Does the film leave any disunities (loose ends) at the end? If so, what does it suggest? We are not yet done watching the movie 9. Why does the film conclude on this particular image? we haven't finish the movie yet...

::)Guide Questions to Critical Assessment of Sa North Diversion Road 1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole?*I think it is because of the setting of the film which is the road. And also maybe because they're traveling to the north. hahaha:))2. Why does the film start in the way that it does?*To show that most of the couples do only talk in the car whenever they are going to work or to other places because of the reason of not having enough time to talk to each other. And the reason for not having time is work. And also there is a worst reason, it is of having a third party of either the husband or the wife. They don't have much time with each other. How Sad
3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve?*Obviously yes. First is the setting, t all happen in the car while travelling in a long road. Second is the scenery when the wife is always askng her husband about his mistress. And lastly, all the scenec pertains to the same ending which shows that the husband is always guilty about his mistress. tsk.tsk 4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.)*YES ;D It completes the flavor of the film.5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes?*It pertains to what kind of mood the scenes have. Also it shows the condition of the couples whether it is in up or down status of relationship. 6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function?*Yes, as an observation there is a pattern. The pattern is that first, there is always a quarrel between the couples, second, the man always end up guilty of the accusation, and third,at first the wife always new that her husband has a women. 7. What specific scene constitutes the film's climax? How does this scene resolve the central issue of the film?*Well we are not yet finish watching the movie, but for what i"ve already watched the climax there is when the wife it already in mental because of the husband's unfaithfulness. HARSH 8. Does the film leave any disunities (loose ends) at the end? If so, what does it suggest?Even though we are not yet done with the movie but what we already scene it that yes,it does have a disunity. The film doesn't show any dynamic to what the topic is. There is always a repeated scenes and it is played over and over again though in some different matter. 9. Why does the film conclude on this particular image?*No idea, becuase the film is not yet finished.

1. "SA NORTH DIVERSION ROAD", simply because it is the setting of the film.
2. Is it the talking inside the car scenes? Perhaps because its the only time and place where they have nowhere to go but to stay there and hopefully, to talk about each other.
3. "MANLOLOKO" Iv'e heard that a lot of times, even those words synonimous to it like "KALIWETE". Words that tell what the movie is all about. Unfaithfulness of one, heart-broke of the other.
4. As far as I remember, the noises during the scene where part of the film, noises since they are in highway. A little bit of effects was added up to make the viewers feel more the tension.
5. Whenever the mood of the characters are unhappy, or whenever conflict arises between the characters, it darkens. However, like the part when they are both happily discussing something, it lightens.
6. It cuts when they finish quarreling. Its usually the woman who stops first the talking, then the man wont say a word. Sometimes the quarreling ends when the husband chooses his wife, yet sometimes the other way around. Sometimes the wife forgives her man, yet sometimes she just couldn't do such.
For no.'s 7-9 The movie isn't finished yet.

1. the setting of the film was in the north diversion road. 2. to show the conflict of the film. because the husband was unfaithful to her wife. 3. yes. because every scene, they were talking about what's happening to their relationship. 4. yes. 5. the dark color use when they have conflict with each other and the light color use when they talking about their past relationship, the time when they were ok. 6. when they were finished talking about their problem in their relationship. 7. when the two couple have conflict about their relationship and while they were in the car, they were arguing in such a simple things like the music, and the time when they were eating. 8. i think no. because the two couple ram their car to end their lives. since they were together, they decide to end their lives. 9. to show the true meaning of love. that we should be faithful when we were inlove. if we were unfaithful to our love ones, it might happen to us like whats happen to the film "sa north diversion road".
