1.It symbolizes the setting of the movie as well as life of a person or the character in the movie 2. It shows the conflict in the movie 3. Yes there are many specially the scene where the wife is asking her husband what he was thinking...It was repeated many times...Maybe the purpose of it is to show the different reaction of people regarding the conflict of the movie...some of it is ironic 4. maybe 5. it uses dark lighting when the scene became serious or when the wife and the husband have quarrels 6. the scenes are cut whenever the setting is near the exit road and when the quarrels seems to end... 7. Maybe when the wife is in the mental hospital and the husband realizes his mistake 8. Yes because it was not shown what happen to the wife whether she survive her disease and was able to hear the song her husband had wrote 9. maybe to make the viewers think about the ending of the story and make their insight

1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole? - it is the whole setting of the story... known today as the NLEX
2. Why does the film start in the way that it does? - for me, it is the way of the director to foreshadows the next scenes
3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve? "ano ba iniisip mo?" even I watched the full film, still I did not understand the purpose for repeating such question if the film..
4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.) - yep
5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes? -they are using some dark lighting when the couple was arguing...
6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function? -they are cut whenever they would enter a particular exit in North Diversion Road (eg. bocaue exit),
7. What specific scene constitutes the film's climax? How does this scene resolve the central issue of the film? - well for me the climax is when the couple argues so much and also the mental- retardation of his wife... it was resolved in a matter of suicide... well that's my own understanding...
8. Does the film leave any disunities (loose ends) at the end? If so, what does it suggest? - Hmmm.. as I said there are scenes in the last of the movie where there is an ideal couple which is exactly opposite of the later one..
9. Why does the film conclude on this particular image? - be faithful and love one fully..

Guide Questions to Critical Assessment of Sa North Diversion Road
1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole? - the title “sa North Diversion Road” is related to the film because it is the setting of the story. Aside from that it is also symbolic, I think the different places or exit in along the north diversion road symbolizes the different sins or unfaithfulness of her husband. And the length of the road represents the length of their marriage.
2. Why does the film start in the way that it does? - the film starts in the way it does, to give the viewers idea about the film and to show the conflict present in the story.
3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve? - yes, the fight or quarrel between the couple, I think the purpose of it is to show the impact of the husband’s mistake to his wife.
4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.) - yes, it catches the viewer’s attention. It also intensifies the tension in the film.
5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes? - the light/dark color used in the different scenes suggests the mood of the story. If the scene is serious and dull, it uses dark color to emphasize the seriousness of the scene. And if the scene is funny and lively, it uses light color to show the light side of the story or scene.
6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function? - the scenes were cut everytime the fight or quarrel between the couple had ended and after saying different unpleasant words to each other.
7. What specific scene constitutes the film's climax? How does this scene resolve the central issue of the film? - I think the climax of the story is when the wife knew that her husband has another girl because it is where the story evolves.
8. Does the film leave any disunities (loose ends) at the end? If so, what does it suggest? - yes, I think the problem of the couple wasn’t solved yet. There was no clear conclusion or ending in the story. I think it suggests that the problem was not solved.
9. Why does the film conclude on this particular image? - I think to show that the problem between the couple wasn’t resolved and to leave a question to the viewers…

1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole? -the title does not only give the setting of the film but its irony as well. North Diversion Road has a very wide road, and it is very long, the realtionship of the husband and the wife in the film was compress and narrow.
2. Why does the film start in the way that it does? -the film started with the main reason (the third-party) of their current travel in the NDR...
3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve? -the film's motifs could be showing different kind of spouses. throughout the story, the husband thinks of different atributes his wife could be, like being emotional, vocal, serious, and even mentally challenge. the pupose of which is to show, that the husband could be a little thankful that his wife were none of thse he imagined, that at least they're exact opposite of his wife.
4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.) -yes it enhanced the film
5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes? -it suggest the ending of the scene, and also the mood of the scene, like the suicidal ending of the husband and wife, the wife killing her husband and also the saddness behind the wife's being mentally challenge.
6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function? -they always cut when the scene suggest the ending of the couples quarreling. the ending are random, some ended happily, some actually didn't suggest an ending at all.
7. What specific scene constitutes the film's climax? How does this scene resolve the central issue of the film? -all scenes has constitute the film's climax, though in the end, the wife ended up being sick, the scenes foreshadow the climax as somehow tragic. the scenes in the film shows different view, and different endings of the central issue of the film, which is the couples infidelity and distrustful.
8. Does the film leave any disunities (loose ends) at the end? If so, what does it suggest? -the climax of the film is totally different from teh previews scene, but so far i see the relation of each film to the climax.
9. Why does the film conclude on this particular image?to show how Filipinos solved their problems with his husband -because Filipinos have several (or may be many) cases of husbands infidelity to their wives, the film concluded on ways the filipinos solved this matter. because of, to some, strong family ties between both the couples, and it's complete opposite (weak family ties to both couples), are some reasons of infidelity. and the main reason in the film shows an early marriage of the couple, and there unhappy life of not enjoying their younger years being single.

A nswers to Critical Assessment of Sa North Diversion Road
1. What does the title mean in relation to the film as a whole?-->"North Diversion Road" is the setting of the movie.
2. Why does the film start in the way that it does?--> to show the main topic or what the movie is all about. Different people but with one problem-- INFIDELITY.
3. Are there any motifs (scenes, images) of dialogue which are repeated? What purpose do they serve? --> The movie have ten different scenes. Each always starts with what exit they are interpreting. And at the start of every scene, the wife is asking her husband, "magkwento ka namn toti o. Ano bang iniisip mo?"
4. Is sound used in any vivid ways either to enhance the film? (i.e. Enhance drama, heighten tension or conflict, disorient the viewer, etc.)--> Ahm. I think, it is primarily based on the intonation and loudness the way the characters talk to each other. It shows their emotion and what they feel. It's effective for the audience to understand very well every scene.
5. How does the film use color or light/dark to suggest tone and mood in different scenes?--> Dark for conflict and anger. Light colors for happy and peace. ;D
6. How and when are scenes cut? Are there any patterns in the way the cuts function?--> The scenes are cut when they already portray what they want and to start another scene. It's a barrier that says to the audience that "this is another scene. it's different from the previous one."
7. What specific scene constitutes the film's climax? How does this scene resolve the central issue of the film? --> i think the climax is the last scene. it actually combine all the scenes into one. it can be proven by seeing the cars of the other couples in other scenes. the car of the intelligent couple that commited suicide and the pink cars. it actually explains the conflicts into generalizations.
8. Does the film leave any disunities (loose ends) at the end? If so, what does it suggest?--> yes. The husband proved that he really love his wife. but it's for late for him because his wife is already going to die. And the wife wants her husband to be with his "kabit". how ironic. we can just realize what we want and what we have when it's already gone!
9. Why does the film conclude on this particular image?--> This a nice film for it reminds us that our every action have 2 effects on us. Good or bad! And that time is really gold. Our every second in this world is precious so we must live our life to the fullest. Living life to the fullest means being with our love ones, treasuring our every moments and avoiding to hurt them. For then, GOD have ways for us to realize and to learn our lessons!
thank you sir! nice film. I appreciate it very much!
