Never was I a fanatic of Filipino movies, but this movie struck me with its theme that conveys us Filipinos to open and broaden our minds to reality and be aware of the brutality of the our current world. Somehow, it influenced me to never be influenced by individuals with foolish minds.

1. Did you like this film in general? Why?
In a country where history is becoming of less importance, it is very rare to find materials that celebrate the glories and beauties of the past. To some, specifically to those who remain concerned about the Philippines before, it is a jubilation to find historical materials such as the film Jose Rizal. I am one of those few who still find value in our history especially in the life of our hero. My heart pours out with joy because for all the disregard of history in our nation, a group of film makers braved it through to present to our people a very important part of our past, a clue to who who were, who we are, and what we can become.
2. Did you agree with the main theme/purpose that the film wants to convey? Why or why not?
I think the film was successful in portraying our hero as superior, selfless and so in love with our country. Superior because in the film, Rizal was number one in class. It clearly depicted what historians wrote about him, that he was able to surpass his white classmates and that he believed that Filipinos are mentally superior than the Spaniards. Rizal was also represented as selfless. This character should be noted to be only a result of his love for our country. He was willing to die to himself and more gladly die for his nation.
3. What specifically did you like/dislike about the film? Why?
I liked how the film used Rizal's childhood to show what he would become later in life. The scene where Rizal was bullied by the son of his schoolmaster showed that since the hero's childhood, he was never to let anyone wrestle him down either by intellect or by physicality. Since then, Rizal had the soul of a fighter, always wanting to be victorious over his opponents. I also liked the use of Noli to portray the thoughts and heart of our native hero. In terms of production, I think it was good, but I feel there is still something missing.
4. What lesson or insight have you learned from the film?
According to Ambeth Ocampo, if we would read on the life of our hero, we would discover not just his greatness but also realize our identity as Filipinos. The film gave me a little glimpse of what Rizal could have been many years ago. Somehow, the film contributed to my spirit that you and I can become the best. There is a Rizal in all of us wanting to come out, a Rizal that when awakened will shine the light and glory of our race.
5. Did the author/actors/director do a good job in the film? Why or why not?
Yes. The mere effort to produce a film about our hero is already commendable. The actors were able to show the intensity and drama.
6. What particular changes would you like to recommend to further enhance the quality of the film? How could it be further improved?
Like I said, something's missing in the film. I don't consider it as a perfect film but it is a good film. Perhaps the sound quality should be improved and more details about our hero should be highlighted. The play of cameras should also be enhanced. There are many experiences of Rizal worthy of inclusion that I never saw in the film. I think it should be more competent since it centers in the life our the GREAT MALAY, the RENAISSANCE MAN, and the BEST ASIAN who ever lived. It should be world-class and praiseworthy.
