1. Provide a brief summary of the film. (Two or three sentences are fine; you don't need to include a lot of details.) -RENT is a film about the struggling relationship with friends and the fight against the deadly virus AIDS. The setting took place on New York's East Village and tells the story of one year in the life of friends living the Bohemian life amidst of AIDS epidemic.
2. State your opinion of the movie. What are its strengths and weaknesses? Provide specific examples (scenes, situations) from the film. -The movie is good for it shows a deeper side of what the society is facing today. We are now living in a world where people are not focus on the things that made them alive. So, as a movie goer and showing this movie made me realized that change is not yet over. We can do more to help other people to know who they are and what the world is now. That we, the people can build a better future ahead of us.
STRENTHS: It shows a better picture of what the society is now and relate this through music. 1) AIDS a deadly virus killing millions of people in Africa and around the world were depicted in the characters of Angel, Collins, Roger, Mimi and April; 2) gay relationship that is now bit by bit accepted by the society were seen between Angel and Collins; 3) drug addiction which I think is the most concern of the world right now is shown through Mimi who cannot control her usage of drugs.
WEAKNESS: The ending of the movie is quite vague for me because I cannot depict the things that happened to the other characters like Benny but otherwise it's OK.
3. What character(s) do you most identify with? What are the main personality traits of this (these) characters? -More evidently with Mark Cohen, for I want to atleast change the a society by giving them a different me. A documentary for example. And show them that despite everything, I can be a friend they can lean on in everything that they've been through. I can be their walls and shoulder to cry on.
4. In your opinion, what was the director's intention or message? How does the film relate to Philippine culture? Specifically, how does it relate to the era in which it was made? -The director wanted to show a society full of flaws but despite everything, change is always a constant matter and that there is always tomorrow after today. Whilst the Philippines is a democratic country, I think the country is not as open-minded as other countries because here they prohibit same sex relationship and abhor those with AIDS.
5. Finally, give the movie a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down." -A THUMBS UP! ;D

1. The movie depicts the lives of several Bohemians and their struggles with sexuality, cross-dressing, drugs, life under the shadow of AIDS, and paying their rent.
2. Strength: It shows the reality of our world, the issues of AIDS homosexuality, addiction in drugs, and being financially distress sometimes. Aside from that the music is so good! I really like the lyrics of their songs because I can easily connect myself to it. I love their voices and the way they arrange it.
Weakness: I find it awkward to watch the scenes were there were homosexual individual involved (the kissing scene especially.)
3. I can relate myself to the character of Mark Cohen. He is very supportive to his friends. It’s like He is the strength of the group. He never left his friend especially when they were in dire need.
4. For me the message of the movie is that you have to treasure every moment of your life. Never waste any opportunity in your life. Do not let your baggages hinder you in living your life. You have to live life to the fullest and not live life like you are dying. Remember that every second is important so you better not waste it. Also, you have to show to the people around you that they are important to you, that love them. Always show to them that you appreciate them in your life. The movie can be related in the Philippines in such a way that the Filipino people know how to overcome their challenges in life and turn it into their strength. They can still manage to smile even if they are in the worst situation in their life. They always think positive. As for the era, it was made when the AIDS had started to spread in the world.
5. Thumbs up!

1. Rent is a 2005 American film adaptation of a broadway musical that depicts the lives of several Bohemians and their struggles with sexuality, cross-dressing, drugs, life under the shadow of AIDS, and paying their rent. 2. Its strength I think is in its musical aspect, every song, every lyric, its artistry, the musical arrangements, their voices, everything. I can't really cite any weakness in this film, probably because I enjoyed it so much that I wasn't really looking on its flaws. 3. Benny. His sincerity towards his loved ones. 4. Appreciation and contentment with what you have. The importance of friendship and family in dealing with our struggles in life. Hope and faith that everything will be alright, that just do your best and live happily with no regrets and reservations. 5. Thumbs UP! =D

1. The Monty Python's Life of Brian is a 1979 comedy film that tells the story of Brian Cohen, a young Jewish man who is born in the same era and location as Jesus Christ, and is subsequently mistaken for the Messiah. 2. Since its a comical movie, it's strength probably was its humor. Like the whole movie was filled with comical acts that will really entertain you from beginning until the end. It's weakness, in my humble opinion, was the story itself. I wasn't really captured by its story line of Brian being confused as the Messiah. Had it been a different story line plus their amazing comical acts, It would be much more interesting and appreciated. 3. Brian. His innocence and strive to do good for other people. 4. I think it is the attitude of some people who blindly follow someone without knowing the reason for it or if it is really the right thing to do. Some scenes also showed how people are care less for others and that they are living for themselves. 5. Thumbs up.

RENT!+_+
1. This movie is about a group of people that was bind by different by interrelated circumstances. This showcases different way of handling problem of an individual. The movie shows problem about AIDS, Sexuality, Past Relationship, and Broken Friendship.
2. Strength: i found the societal issues in the film very timely. AIDS for example, we all know that the number of infected persons is increasing and through this film people who are suffering from this illness was encourage to move on with their life and still live life to the fullest. And many more issues.
Weakness: Some songs in the film is hard to interpret.
3. Mark. I can see myself with his character in the sense i really want to continue loving my Ex as a friend after our break up.
4. I thinks his intention is to teach us how to handle different problems that we are facing.
5. Two Thumbs UP!

1. the film is an adaptation of a broadway musical which follows the stories of eight individuals whose lives collide on one Christmas and who become a family over the course of a year. Each of the characters fight from battles with drug addictions, to living with H.I.V./A.I.D.S 2. the movie was great!,,for there are lessons(another strength) you can get from the story about living your life,,one of the strengths of this movie was the cast, they acted well. 3. i think mimi. because she loves truly and with all her heart. though she was rejected for many times still she never give up until one time she was accepted. 4. for me, the director's message in the film are to value your life as well as your friends.if you have problems in life just take it as a challenge.be inspired. for every problem there is a solution,,never give up 5. thumbs up

Life of Brian! 1. It is a comedy movie about the adventure of Brian, a man that was born in the same place and same time like Jesus Christ. The Three Kings thought that he is the messiah. From then his life follows the pattern of life of Jesus. 2. Strength: It is a feel good movie! Weakness: Some part is hard to understand. 3. Brian. He's the star of the movie and he's really funny. 4. I believe that clear message of the director from this film is “IT IS NOT REALLY ABOUT OUR RELIGION, BUT IT IS HAVING PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD”. No matter what we believe in it is our personal relationship with God that will matter. 5. watching it gives relieve from a very tiring day, so Thumbs UP!

In your opinion, what was the director's intention or message? How does the film relate to Philippine culture? Specifically, how does it relate to the era in which it was made? In the Movie "Brian" I think the intention of the director is to deliver a message that sometimes people push you to a situation that you don't want but you need to stand for it. In the movie "The Rent" This is showing that friendship can have a positive and negative effect to one’s life. 5. Finally, give the movie a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down." THUMBS UP FOR BOTH MOVIES

1. The movie is all about Brian who is born on the original Christmas, in the stable next door. He spends his life being mistaken for a messiah.
2. Strength: the movie, catch up the attention of the viewers by means of comedy scenes, jokes and a nice ending song. Weakness: the movie, only the ending song makes the movie with sense.

5. Thumbs Up!

1. Provide a brief summary of the film. (Two or three sentences are fine; you don't need to include a lot of details.)
It is based on writer/composer Jonathan Larson’s play, “Rent” is the riveting story of a group of young bohemians struggling to get through life in New York’s East Village circa 1989 amidst the shadows of HIV/AIDS.
2. State your opinion of the movie. What are its strengths and weaknesses? Provide specific examples (scenes, situations) from the film.
The best part for me in the said movie is the introduction, the beginning of the scene, the time that everyone was on stage singing the season of love. It made the audience care about each of the central characters. By simply listening to the lyrics of the song you’ll get what the entire movie is all about, LOVE. Search for love, happiness and success. It uses musical genre, that’s the mere strength, the ability of the movie to make the audience feel each stanza.
3. What character(s) do you most identify with? What are the main personality traits of this (these) characters?
You might be expecting that I’ll go for ANGEL, hehehehehe wrong! I think I’m more of MARK. A lover of someone whose lover of some “it” hahahahaha….
4. In your opinion, what was the director's intention or message? How does the film relate to Philippine culture? Specifically, how does it relate to the era in which it was made?
Stand up for life!!! That’s the idea that I think the director intends to give. HIV/AIDS its deadly, but I doesn’t mean you have to live each day acting like a zombie! You have to live you life to the fullest not to the “foolest” it won’ change anything if you imprison yourself away to the real world.
Stand up for life!!! It doesn’t mean your poor, you’ll always be poor!!! There are more to life that mocking on the fact that you are poor. Stand up, look for your bread and butter. Track that success trail!!!
5. Finally, give the movie a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down." THUMBS UP!!! TOES UP TOO!!!

1. ;D Life of Brian is a satirical film about a man who was born at the same time with the messiah and whose life parallels his. It is a comedy film written, directed and largely performed by Monty Phyton's troupe. 2. The movie is a very witty approach of the life's expressions through the ordinary people. It portrayed a funny way of how life's challenges can be dealt with. It also depicted the life of Jesus Christ in an unconventional manner. Although some audience find it boring, this maybe due to not being used to the kind of style of the film, I see it as an intelligent creation of a religious satire. 3. I most identify myself with Brian - stubborn, dandy, uncoventionally smart. he has such a strong character and an authoritative persona. He may sometimes look stupid and unrealistic, but hey i don't really care what i see outside of you. 4.the director's message: "Stop self-wallowing, your sucking in negative energy! nakakasira ng kagandahan!". in every thing there is a season. so so long as were liviving on Earth, let's rock it to the fullest! 5. THUMBS UP!!

1. RENT tells about a group of people struggling to live and pay their rent in New York. The characters strive for success and acceptance and face drug addiction, sexual freedom, love, and AIDS. 2. The movie did have a good message as expressed in a catchy line: "No day but today." There were songs which highlighted the importance of love and commitment. 3. It would be Mimi. She loves the people around her with all her heart. I really love the way she communicated the song “Another Day” – “I live each moment as my last.. No day but today” 4. Rent highlights the importance of love, commitment, and friendship. In Philippine culture, we value all that. Filipinos never get tired of helping friends and loved ones because we really treasure them. The movie communicates to us that in every trial, there is a way out and that you would never be alone in your life. 5. Thumbs up! ;D

In-class Assignment: Film Review1. the life of Bryan is a movie that based in the life of our Jesus Christ but it happened that the film is full of comedy. it is very interesting because i learn that no matter how difficult is life there is happiness on your side. . . 2. the strengths of this film - enjoy to watch (Bryan sings on the last part of the movie which is very funny while his crucifying on the cross. the weaknesses of this problem - sometime scenes are awkward like when Bryan is falling down to the tower then there is u.f.o or alien with spaceship just to get Bryan. 3. Bryan is the only character i like... because he is funny person with his role. 4. the intention of the director is to emphasize how wonderful life is?!..... it has related to our Philippine culture because as we all know that Filipino people is one of the happy person on the world and it is also related to the life of our Jesus Christ. 5. definitely thumbs up..... (100x)

1. Life of Brian is a comedy film. It tells the story of Brian Cohen (played by Graham Chapman), a young Jewish man who is born in the same era and location as Jesus Christ, and is subsequently mistaken for the Messiah. 2. STRENGTHS: The movie is funny.Although somewhat anti-Christian. Anyone that has a good sense of humour will love this movie. 3. WEAKNESS: I cannot understand some parts and lines of the movie. 4. I think the director wanted to remind the people/viewers. It's an excellent reminder that when it comes to religion and politics, people should think for themselves. 5. THUMBS UP!!!!!!

It tells the story of Brian Cohen (played by Graham Chapman), a young Jewish man who is born in the same era and location as Jesus Christ, and is subsequently mistaken for the Messiah. 2. The movie is really entertaining but on my opinion, they should not use the theme of Brian mistaken as a Messiah. Aren't they ashamed making fun of the life of our Creator? For me, they should not use it to make their audiences laugh. 3. Obviously, people in the movie are religious. They strongly believe in messages, to prophets,. They basically based their lives on the prophecy. 4. Religiosity woud not mean following everything that one has said or done. Always look on the bright side of life, we always have HIM. Just have faith and we'll be on the right track 5. a SUPER THUMBS UP!!!
